Late October Is Stacked. Good Luck Picking One.

The back half of October is one of those stretches where the calendar stops asking what you're in the mood for and starts telling you. It starts today, October 15, with Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a 2D action-exploration game starring Rose Belmont in 1499 Paris, from Konami and Evil Empire. Same day: Enshrouded leaves Early Access with its 1.0 launch on PC and PS5, Ratatan — the rhythm roguelike from the Patapon lineage — arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC, and Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teredea opens its farm gates.

October 16 brings Tales of Eternia Remastered worldwide, plus native Switch 2 ports of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. October 20 has Mycopunk, a co-op shooter about robot exterminators versus a planet-wide fungal menace, and We Were Here Tomorrow, the fifth entry in the co-op puzzle series. October 22 is Final Fantasy Resonance, Square Enix's first HD-2D Final Fantasy, alongside Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on Switch 2 and Hitman: Absolution on Switch 2. October 23 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. October 27 brings Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy, the survival-horror trilogy finale with a soundtrack by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. October 29 is Phantom Blade Zero, the dark wuxia action RPG, plus The Wolf Among Us Remastered and Steins;Gate Re:Boot on western consoles. October 30 closes it out with The Cat in the Hat: Rainy Day Mayhem and Queen's Domain, a retro-fantasy first-person action RPG. And if your backlog needs one more thing, the Metro Redux next-gen update lands as a free patch for existing owners — PC on October 22, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29.

Here's the thing about this lineup: half of it is asking you to pay again for games you already love. Tales of Eternia, the Resident Evil ports, The Wolf Among Us, Hitman: Absolution — that's a lot of the calendar spent revisiting the past, and the remasters are good, but they crowd out the new swings. The genuinely new bets — Phantom Blade Zero, Final Fantasy Resonance, Mycopunk — are carrying all of the "what's next" weight in a fortnight that otherwise leans hard on nostalgia. That's not a complaint, exactly. It's just the shape of the season: the industry is selling you your memories in October and saving its new ideas for the gaps between them.

Meanwhile, the subscription story cuts both ways this month. Mycopunk launches day one into the PS Plus Game Catalog, so PlayStation subscribers get one of the month's genuinely new games at no extra cost. But Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is not on Game Pass at launch, even with campaign early access for digital pre-orders starting October 16. Two of the biggest games of the window, two opposite answers to the same question about how you pay for games now.

So the real question isn't whether there's anything to play. It's whether your wallet and your backlog can survive the same two weeks. What's actually making your list — and what's getting pushed to the backlog?
