Witchbrook Finally Has a Date: January 28, 2027 Leads a Stacked Indie World
Witchbrook finally has a date — January 28, 2027 — and it leads a stacked Indie World showcase of 23 games, four same-day demos, and a 2027 calendar that runs into spring.
Nintendo packed 23 games into fifteen minutes on October 28, and for once the headline didn't need any hype-man help: Witchbrook has a release date. January 28, 2027. After a development that's been in the public eye since 2017, Chucklefish's cozy witch life sim is real, it's dated, and it's the first thing the showcase showed.
If you've followed this game at all, you know why that lands. Witchbrook is the one where you start a new life as the newest resident witch in the seaside town of Mossport, attend Witchbrook College on the road to graduation and beyond, make friends, find love, and explore a world built for charm. It supports up to four players online, and it's coming to Switch and Switch 2 on January 28 — with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions also in the picture. The standing joke about this game was always "someday." Someday now has a calendar entry.
Right behind it, the other big swing: City of None, from Extremely OK Games and Celeste co-creator Noel Berry (with brother Liam). It's a pixel-art action and puzzle platformer where you play a spirit in a wooden body fighting the "ravenous Barons" across five city sectors, each with its own environments, playstyles, and four-color palette. Metroidvania-style progression, fast combat, winding pathways. It lands on Switch and Switch 2 in 2027, and if you squint at the footage you can see the Celeste DNA in the movement — which is exactly why it's on everyone's list now.
The rest of the show kept the pace up. Winds of Viridia, a gorgeous 3D action-adventure with a Hollow Knight-style charm system and a soundtrack co-composed by Hollow Knight composer Christopher Larkin, hits Switch 2 in early 2027 with a demo available now. Sword of the Sea, the adventure from the team behind Abzu and Journey, comes to Switch 2 on October 29 — tomorrow, as of the showcase. Spirit Crossing, the multiplayer home-building game above the clouds from the Cozy Grove folks, arrives November 16. Slime Rancher 2 hops onto Switch 2 in January 2027.
And the demos are the quiet win here. Four of them dropped the same day: the paranormal co-op puppy adventure Haunted Paws, the pixel open-world RPG Petal Runner, the roguelike coin-pusher RACCOIN: Chaos Max Edition, and Winds of Viridia itself. Nintendo knows the Indie World demo drop is half the show — you watch fifteen minutes, then you go play four things before dinner.
The sizzle reel filled out the 2027 calendar: Tenjutsu, the beat-'em-up roguelike from a former Dead Cells director, and Threads of Time, a turn-based RPG with 2.5D pixel art, both in 2027; Tanuki: Pon's Summer on November 19; Everything is Crab on January 26; Petal Runner on March 8; My Arms Are Longer Now on March 11; Super Battle Golf on March 25.
Here's the thing about this showcase: it didn't need a megaton. Witchbrook's date alone would have carried it, and everything around it — a Celeste successor's next game, a same-day demo pile, a calendar that runs clean into spring — is the kind of depth that makes the Switch 2's indie bench look less like a side stage and more like the main event's undercard. January 28 can't come fast enough, and for once, that's a sentence about Witchbrook we get to say with a straight face.
